The statutes

Five Florida laws behind a glass claim

We read each section on flsenate.gov on October 16, 2026. The middle column summarizes the law; the right column is what it means for you. Your own policy wording still governs your claim.

Florida statutes that apply to an Orlando windshield claim
StatuteWhat it saysWhat it means for you
Fla. Stat. § 627.7288On a policy with comprehensive or combined additional coverage, the deductible does not apply to damage to the windshield.Your windshield can have $0 Deductible with Comprehensive Coverage. Liability-only policies are not covered by this rule.
Fla. Stat. § 627.7289Post-loss assignment of motor vehicle glass benefits is barred on policies issued or renewed on or after July 1, 2023.The claim stays in your name. We help you file it; we never take it over.
Fla. Stat. § 559.920(17)A shop may not offer a rebate, gift card, coupon or any other thing of value in exchange for making a glass claim, calibration included.Nobody should offer you a reward for filing. We do not.
Fla. Stat. § 559.920(18)A shop must give notice, electronically or in writing in at least 12-point type, of whether driver-assist calibration is required. If your camera needs calibrating, the notice comes with your quote.
Fla. Stat. § 627.7291For a personal-lines windshield claim, an insurer may not require a particular company or location for the work.Your insurer can explain your coverage, but it cannot require a certain windshield shop. Check whether you accepted a policy with a repair arrangement.

§ 627.7288 names the windshield only. Door, rear and sunroof glass take your policy's normal deductible.

Your claim

An Orlando windshield claim, start to finish

  1. Find your declarations page

It lists each car's coverages. Look for comprehensive, sometimes called Other Than Collision, on the car with the cracked glass.

  2. Send us the policy details

Call our Orlando line or use the quote form. We check the coverage before anything goes on the calendar, and you hear what you would owe.

  3. We help you file your claim

You open the claim with your insurer by phone or app. We are on hand with the glass part, the VIN details and our business information.

  4. Install where the car is parked

Home, office or rental, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm, with written notice about calibration if your car needs it.

  5. We bill the insurer directly

After covered work, the invoice goes to the insurance company. If a deductible applies, you pay it to us; we never cover, waive or refund it.

After a storm

Hurricane and fallen-branch damage

When Milton crossed Central Florida in October 2024, wind and fallen trees damaged parked cars across west and southwest Orange County. Glass broken by wind, falling limbs or flying debris normally falls under comprehensive coverage, not collision. For the windshield, that means the same § 627.7288 rule applies; for side, rear or sunroof glass, the normal deductible does.

After a storm, take photos of the car where it sits before you move it, then call your insurer. Many cars may be waiting for glass at once, so ask us early and tell us if the car cannot be driven.

Insurance companies

Which insurers we help with

We accept all insurance companies, and the steps above are the same whichever one is on your card. Your card might say State Farm, GEICO, USAA, Progressive, Allstate or a regional name; we help you file the claim the same way. Naming your insurer does not mean we partner with it: no insurance company endorses or recommends us, and we do not act for any of them.

Florida coverage questions

Have your declarations page ready and call our Orlando line, (407) 305-3829. Our (877) line, (877) 994-5277, is answered 24/7.

Did the 2023 law end Florida's windshield deductible rule?

No. The 2023 changes (ch. 2023-136) banned claim inducements, ended post-loss assignment of glass benefits and added the calibration notice. Fla. Stat. § 627.7288, the windshield deductible rule, was not repealed.

I only have liability coverage. Can I still get a windshield?

Yes, as a self-pay job. The deductible rule needs comprehensive or combined additional coverage, so it does not apply. You get the price before you book.

Will a windshield claim raise my premium?

Ask your insurer. We cannot predict how a claim affects your rates, and none of the statutes on this page answer that question.

Why don't Florida shops offer gift cards for a claim anymore?

Fla. Stat. § 559.920(17) bars shops from offering a rebate, gift card, coupon or anything else of value in exchange for making a glass claim. A Florida offer like that should be a warning sign.

Is my rental car's windshield covered the same way?

Glass on a rental car belongs to the rental company, so report it to them and follow their process. We replace glass on vehicles you own or lease.
