The place
Named for a citrus grower
Dr. Phillips is not a town. It is a census-designated place in unincorporated Orange County, named after Dr. Philip Phillips, a Central Florida citrus grower credited with early advances in processing and packaging orange juice. By the early 1920s his groves ran from Conroy Road in the north to the south end of the Sand Lake chain of lakes. Bay Hill, Orange Tree, Sand Lake Hills, Clubhouse Estates and Turkey Lake Park all sit on land that was once his orange trees.
The population has grown steadily, from 7,963 in 1990 to 12,328 in the 2020 census. Next door, Bay Hill is its own census-designated place of about 5,000 people on both sides of Apopka-Vineland Road. Its golf club dates from 1961, was owned by Arnold Palmer from 1974 until 2016, and hosts the Arnold Palmer Invitational each March.
People use the name loosely. Many addresses outside the census lines still say Dr. Phillips, and Sand Lake Road ties the whole area together. That is why this page covers the road as well as the place.
The road
Sand Lake Road, west to east
State Road 482 begins at Apopka-Vineland Road in Dr. Phillips and runs 7.8 miles east. Its crossings are the easiest way to tell us where you are.

At Orange Avenue the road becomes McCoy Road and ends at SR 528 and Boggy Creek Road, west of the airport.
Road work
The I-4 work at Sand Lake
The southwest stretch of I-4 is part of I-4 Beyond the Ultimate, the state's project to extend the express lanes about 40 miles past downtown, built in segments. Exit 74A at Sand Lake Road has been rebuilt as a diverging diamond, where traffic crosses briefly to the left side of the road between the ramps. The new entrance ramp from Sand Lake Road to westbound I-4 opened in February 2025, the new westbound exit ramp in May 2025, and a direct ramp to Turkey Lake Road on May 2, 2026.
Two exits south, the westbound ramp at exit 72 onto the eastbound Beachline (SR 528) was being widened to two lanes from January 2024, with completion expected in April 2026. Further south, the new Daryl Carter Parkway interchange (exit 70) opened on July 19, 2025.
Work zones like these mean shifting lanes, loose material near the shoulders and trucks hauling fill. If a stone hits your windshield on this stretch, note the exit and the direction, take a dated photo once you are parked, and send it to us. We replace windshields; we do not repair chips.

Working on southwest Orange streets
Homes and offices make up most of the work here. Tell us these things when you book.
- Guard gates and coded gates: the code, or the name on the guest list, goes in the booking notes. Some communities also want residents to call the gatehouse ahead of a vendor visit.
- Association rules: a few restrict work trucks parked on the street. If yours does, a driveway or an open garage solves it.
- Office parks and condo garages: ask the property office whether vendor work is allowed, and tell us the level and clearance height.
- Lakeside homes: if the driveway slopes down to the water, mention it. A level spot helps the install, and many camera calibrations need level ground.
- Storm season: a garage or a morning slot keeps an afternoon shower from moving the appointment.

Dr. Phillips questions
Something else? Call (407) 305-3829, or text (877) 350-5962.
Is Dr. Phillips part of Orlando?
Not legally. Dr. Phillips is an unincorporated area of Orange County with Orlando mailing addresses. We serve it from Orlando all the same.
My windshield has a camera. Can you calibrate it at my house?
Often, yes. Calibration is included with the windshield replacement when your car needs it, done in the same visit where the procedure can be done on site. Many procedures need level ground, so tell us if your driveway slopes.
Will my insurance pay for the windshield?
On a Florida policy with comprehensive coverage, the windshield can have $0 Deductible with Comprehensive Coverage. We check your policy before we book and help you file your claim.
Can a technician come to my office near Sand Lake Road on short notice?
Possibly. Same-day appointments are available in most areas when the calendar allows, depending on the glass your car takes. Ask the property office whether vendor work is allowed, and tell us the Sand Lake Road crossing nearest the lot. Online booking is open at any hour.
